The letter opens,
Spilling seed
From tender crease -
Now out of reach,
Their latent
Germination fixed,
Sealed up in shells
Which some shall pass
And others not.

A sum shall seep,
Like tears, beneath,
Compelling lifesongs
From each breath
Held back, as words
Divide the field -
The furtive furrows
Plainly marked
For crows to see.

The "caw" of beaks
Encircles time;
And the tiny plot
Where she attends
Clipping leaves,
Uprooting stems,
Becomes her
Final mastery
As she, the seeds,
Sends me.
